Alberg 30 Trailer Coming Along- Almost Finished Construction

The weather here in Virginia has finally broken. We are now seeing the type of weather one would expect to see for spring, now that the temperature is up and it is not raining. I have been able to get quite a bit done on the trailer. 

Finally got some new tires for trailer. One more thing I can scratch off the to-do list. These 8x14.5 tires are not easy to find - I had to travel a few towns over. I repainted the rims and they look pretty good mounted to the reconditioned hubs. She's starting to look like something!

Back on the street! Yard is still quite wet...definitely too wet to lay on so I moved the operation to the street.

She's a long one. This Alberg 30 trailer is just a tad too long for my driveway.

All welding equipment ready to go. This day I completed a lot of the finish welding. Most of the added beam and keel supports were just tacked using the small MIG welder. I arc welded all the main supports and trailer tongue.

I also added some nice D rings. I have added 4 so far. I will add two more once I have the boat on the trailer. This way I can place them exactly where they will be needed. These small details take time, but in the end it will make for a very nice trailer.

I should be able to make more progress over the next few days. The weather is supposed to hold out through the weekend. If it does, I might have the trailer nearly finished.

I would like to wish all our family, friends and followers a Happy New Year! 2013 was a year of change for us and we adapted well. 2014 will bring us closer to becoming live aboards and someday cruisers. We originally had hoped to be living aboard in 5 years after her purchase. We are now 3 years in and not really much closer. Everyday life and debt has us trapped it seems. We are making progress of freeing ourselves of debt and with drawing from everyday life, that is what counts. And to be honest, our Sal just is not ready to be lived on quite yet. We still have our dream and are inching closer to setting sail so follow along this coming year as we prepare Sal to be a proper live aboard boat.

Schooner Virginia

Yesterday while out for a great afternoon sail we had the pleasure of seeing the lovely Schooner Virginia under sail. She was sailing out of Little Creek Inlet on Southern Chesapeake Bay. What a beautiful vessel!

A few days ago I decided to head to Sal early in the morning. I was greeted by this beautiful sunrise.

The time will come when this will be the view I wake up to every morning.

I am going to write this blog a bit out of order. I am going to start way back at the beginning and how we came to start this adventure. I will tell the story of how our Salacia was choosen to be our home and the adventures that got us to the current day and time. Once we reach the current day on the blog, we will fill you in on our journey as we are enjoying it. I will post random pictures of us, our family and of course our Sal along the way to keep things interesting.....so stay tuned!

This is a picture of the two lovely ladies in my life! This picture was taken before Salacia was ours. This shot( a favorite of mine) was taken the day we first visited Sal in Feb '11 for our inital inspection in Oriental, NC. Of course, Crystal and I fell in love with her and knew she would be ours and now she is! Stay tuned for the funny story that needs to be told about the day we saw Sal for the first time!
